The scale is 25” from the zero fret, and the brass nut measures a full 1 7/8“ in width, providing comfortable string spacing and and a tighter top end response. The rosewood fretboard features a tight grain and pearloid block inlays. The action is very low and effortlessly playable all the way to the last accessible fret, with room on the height-adjustable saddle to tweak the string height to taste. The original slender fretwire is in good shape, showing light wear mostly under the G, B, and High E strings on frets 1-6. The neck has a wide and flat D shaped profile measuring. This Ranger has been professionally setup here at Mike and Mike’s Guitar Bar with comfortable action and fresh strings. An oversized heel block provides a sturdy and sonorous foundation for the bolt-on neck, and the guitar weighs 7lbs 1oz.
This acoustic has a chimey, midrange-forward response, with soft yet present highs and focused lows. As such, the Ranger takes its cues from the Gibson Country Western in body size, aesthetics, and tone wood compliments, featuring an X-braced spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Few guitars fit more squarely in the Spaghetti Western mold than the Italian-made Ranger, and this guitar is the perfect strummer for any cowpoke or Laurel Canyon crooner.
